Morro Bay.

For Thanksgiving break, my wife and I took a few days to unwind in Morro Bay. We stayed at a hotel just a block from the beach, close enough to hear the waves if you left the window cracked a little. The whole trip was laid-back. We ate at local spots, wandered through little shops, and took a day trip up to Hearst Castle. Which is just as over-the-top as you’d expect. In the best way possible.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was getting up early each morning to watch the sunrise over Morro Rock. I kept track of the exact moment the sunlight first hit the rock face fully. Turns out, it happened right at 7:08 am, like clockwork. There was something really calming about standing out there in the quiet while everything slowly lit up.

It was a simple trip, but a memorable one. Just the kind of reset we needed.
